What is MCP? Are MCPs like Zapier? Can MCPs interact with each other?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard plug-in layer: Claude gets tools (calendar, Notion, Slack, web search, etc.) as callable capabilities mid-conversation.

Zapier is closer to "when X fires, run Y" automations you configure ahead of time. MCPs are tools Claude can choose while reasoning through a task—more flexible, but Claude stays in the loop.

MCPs do not privately chat with each other; Claude sequences them. One thread might pull Calendar via one MCP, mail via another, then write a note elsewhere—a chain orchestrated by the model.

Claude is not an MCP. MCPs are connectors; Claude is the thing deciding how to use them.
